Location

At heights, under the sun, close to the mountains, the Cuyo region extends over the west margin of Argentina, a land full of attractive and amazing proposals.
The region is located at the centre west in Argentina, formed by San Juan province, to the east with San Luis province, to the south Mendoza province and finally to the west, Chile Republic. It has an 89.651 km2 area. (2,4% of nacional territory).
Owning the highest summits of American continent such as the Aconcagua, the Mercedario and the Tupungato Vulcan and other summits close to 7000 height metres, it transforms the Los Andes zone into a natural snow reservation which by means of thaws feed our rivers and subterranean rivers, giving an excellent sweet water provision guaranteed to the future generations.

The economy of the region
The Cuyo economic development is exclusively based on a good use of the rivers vital for consumption, irrigation and energy production.
The main economic activities of the region are agriculture and agro industry, based on grape, olive and fruits. The essential aspects of the regional economy are:
- Agriculture under irrigation highly specialized and technified with large investments.
- Mining has large mineral reserves: oil, gas, uranium, copper, gold, silver, marbles and lime stones.
The climate
It is semiarid, cold in winter and hot in summer. Zonda wind deserves a special section, being warm and suffocating. It is originated in the Pacific Ocean; when crossing the Andes it rises, condenses humidity, descending dry and extremely hot, strong and fast. It appears between March and October so that prevention measures are taken due to its severity. Rainfalls take place on the Andes and foothills not affecting crops. They go up to 100 annual mm, in the dessert.
Scarce rainfalls and thermal amplitude between 15º and 16º degrees during the whole year together with hours-cold accumulation result in a fruit containing high oleic acid.
The soil
Soil studies are done, selecting finally the best area for olive production.
Slime and sand duet compose the best soil for olives production. Studies are carried out periodically to vary additional nutrients dynamically, for plantation by means of irrigation.
